The West Virginia University Facilities Management team is planning for two significant scheduled outages that will affect our Morgantown campus beginning this week.
Campuswide Steam Outage (May 12 – 14)
To accommodate enhancements, repairs and testing to our steam infrastructure, WVU is working with the University’s steam provider on a planned campuswide steam outage, which will begin tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:01 a.m. and last through Thursday, May 14, at midnight.
All steam across the entire Morgantown campus will be shut down during the outage, which will affect heating, domestic hot water and lab steam will be affected at the following campus buildings:
· Agricultural Sciences · Allen Hall · Armstrong Hall · Brooks Hall · Chemistry Research Laboratory · Chitwood Hall · Clark Hall · Colson Hall · Creative Arts Center · Downtown Campus Library · Eiesland Hall · Elizabeth Moore Hall · Engineering Research · Engineering Sciences · Evansdale Greenhouse |
· Evansdale Library · John Chambers College of Business and Economics · Life Sciences · Martin Hall · Mineral Resources · Mountainlair · National Research Center for Coal and Energy · Oglebay Hall · Percival Hall · Purinton House · Stewart Hall · Student Recreation Center · White Hall · Woodburn Hall |
Heating and domestic hot water also will be affected in the following residence halls:
· Bennett Tower · Boreman Hall (North and South) · Braxton Tower · Brooke Tower |
· Dadisman Hall · Lyon Tower · Stalnaker Hall |
Air conditioning is not expected to be impacted during the outage. However, the Facilities team will continually monitor temperatures in campus buildings and residence halls and make any necessary adjustments.
Downtown Campus Electrical Outage (June 9)
To ensure the continued delivery of reliable electrical service, Facilities will be working with Mon Power on repairs and maintenance to one of our Downtown electrical substations on June 9.
This maintenance will result in an approximate 12-hour outage of electrical service that will affect most buildings on the Downtown campus. The Evansdale and Health Sciences campuses will not be affected.
We currently are developing a list of buildings that will be impacted during the outage. Existing generators, which are used for life-safety systems, also will be utilized during the interruption in service.
In planning for the electrical outage, we are focusing on providing power to our most critical areas (e.g., research labs, locations used for the care of animals, sites with refrigerators and freezers, etc.) on the Downtown campus. Power to all other areas will be turned off during the outage.
We understand these outages come at a difficult time for our University. However, given the current limitations to our on-campus operations for the foreseeable future, we are looking to complete this critical work at a time that will have the least impact on our students, faculty and staff.
If you have questions or concerns about these outages, please contact your building supervisor. You also may contact Facilities and Services at FacilitiesandServices@mail.wvu.edu.
