Tony Munn, who brings more than 20 years of experience in animal research both in private industry and various higher learning institutions, has been named the new director for the West Virginia University Office of Animal Welfare.

Munn began his new role Jan. 13, and will oversee animal care at WVU as it relates to the health and well-being of animals used for research, testing and education.

“Adding Tony to our team further cements our status as a leading research institution that promotes and practices the humane treatment of animals in research,” said Fred King, vice president of research. “With Tony’s years of experience in the field, he will ensure our commitment to the responsible use of animals in the research laboratory and the classroom.”

Munn has previously worked in research and animal care positions at the University of Texas, University of Arkansas, Texas A&M University and in private industry.

Munn said he wants to facilitate research by assisting investigators in identifying ways to accomplish their objectives while maintaining the expectations of the standards of animal care.

“I hope that faculty will find that we’re focused on providing high quality customer service with our office,” he said.

Munn encourages those involved in animal research to contact him with any questions or issues at Anthony.Munn@mail.wvu.edu.
