Learn how to be prepared if there is an active shooter on campus

active shooter

In the event of an active shooter situation, WVU Alert will send out a message through text, email and other digital displays around campus. Then, you must decide if you will run, hide or fight.

  • Run – Have an escape route in mind in case of an active shooter, run to a safe place and call 911 immediately.

  • Hide – If you are not able to run, lock the door of the room you are in and hide wherever possible.

  • Fight – Fight only as a last resort. Gather things you could use as weapons against the active shooter.

Active shooter training is offered through the University Police Department. Request these trainings and find more important information on active shooter preparedness and more at safety.wvu.edu.
