Fourteen skaters on West Virginia’s first open collegiate synchronized skating team, the WVU Mountainettes, competed Dec. 6-8 in the 24th annual Richard Porter Classic tournament against other eight university teams from Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
They were judged on their ability to create shapes, maintain unison, and have speed in elements such as intersections, blocks, and lines.
The WVU Mountainettes performed a clean skate to the song “I Will Survive” under the professional guidance of their coach Victoria Fauver-Robb, from the Charleston Figure Skating Club.
This weekend there is an opportunity to see the skaters perform their program at the Holiday Soirée on Ice put on by the Mason Dixon Figure Skating Club, which takes place Sunday (Dec 15) at 3:45 p.m. at Morgantown Ice Arena, 1001 Mississippi St, Morgantown.
