The Mindfulness Program at the WVU Health Sciences Center offers several opportunities to enhance relaxation, well-being and resilience—all free of charge. Through Dec. 12, the HSC Wellness Studio (G-278 Health Sciences South) will host 20-minute mindfulness meditation sessions three days per week, led by a trio of mindfulness instructors. Participants with all levels of experience are invited to take time to learn and experience the numerous health benefits of regular meditation. Classes are offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:15 a.m.–11:35 a.m. and
Wednesdays from 1:15 –1:35 p.m.
Additionally, departments and groups from WVU and WVU Medicine are encouraged to schedule monthly mindfulness workshops for interested participants. These free, hour-long workshops explore a variety of modern mindfulness-based techniques, including mindful eating, mindful movement, mindful listening and the science of mindfulness practice. Sampler workshops are designed to help participants effectively improve stress response, in an effort to create a calmer, more resilient mind.
WVU and WVU Medicine are working to support a healthier, happier community by coordinating existing wellness initiatives. The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness has been established to help support these important efforts. Be sure to look for messages from the Office in future ENEWS emails to learn about current initiatives and ways to improve your own wellbeing. This month, we focus on mindfulness activities:
All mindfulness activities are free for students, faculty, staff and employees of WVU and WVU Medicine. You do not have to be a Health Sciences Center employee or student to participate.
