The College of Education and Human Services has announced the appointment of Rodney Hughes as the director of the WVU Center for the Future of Land-Grant Education.
Established in September 2017, the Center for the Future of Land-Grant Education is the first of its kind in the nation and serves as a hub for scholars interested in public higher education access and the land-grant mission.
Hughes, whose scholarship focuses on college access and affordability, college and university governance, and the economics of higher education, has been a member of the CEHS faculty since 2016. He teaches graduate-level courses for students in the Higher Education Administration Program.
"As director, I hope for the research of the center to create progress in three areas: clarifying land-grant institutions' role as an access point for students coming into higher education, envisioning WVU's role as a citizen and partner in the state of West Virginia, and understanding how land-grant institutions carry out their missions as state partners across the nation," Hughes said.
Hughes has been a part of the Center for the Future of Land-Grant Education since its inception and succeeds Nathan Sorber, who has stepped down from the position to serve as chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction/Literacy Studies at CEHS.
