Faculty, students encouraged to attend seminar on how climate change is affecting forest ecosystems

The Institute of Water Security and Science, in partnership with the Division of Forestry and Natural Resources, welcomes students, faculty and staff to a seminar on how climate change is affecting trees and forests, particularly the Eastern Deciduous Forest.

Jason Hubbart, director of the IWSS and professor of physical hydrology and water quality in the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, will hold the presentation at noon Oct. 4, in 334 Percival Hall.

Hubbart will discuss how recent investigations imply Appalachia's excessive and persistent wetness due to climate change may become a primary stressor, which will impact forest ecosystems across the broad EDF region and similarly temperate forests globally.

These ongoing investigations highlight the need to conduct more studies that examine how to adaptively manage forests to ensure the ecosystem remains healthy and productive in a swiftly changing climate.
