The Native American Studies Program welcomes the public to its 27th annual Peace Tree Ceremony Thursday (Sept. 26) at 11:30 a.m. at the Peace Tree, located on the downtown campus near E. Moore Hall and Martin Hall. The Mountainlair's Gluck Theater will serve as a rain location for the ceremony.
This year's guest of honor is Jamie Jacobs (Tonawanda Seneca). In addition to representing his tribal nation, he is a cultural educator and artist who works for the Rock Foundation's Rochester Museum and Science Center in Rochester, New York.
Jacobs' public lecture, "Seneca Views on the Great Law of Peace" is set for Thursday, (Sept. 26) at 7 p.m. in the Mountainlair's Gluck Theater. A welcome reception will take place outside the theater at 6:30 p.m.
Jacobs will be accompanied by traditional singer Blaine Tallchief (Allegany Seneca) at both events, which are free and open to the public.
