The Council for Women’s Concerns will welcome West Virginia Delegate Danielle Walker as the 2019 Women of Color luncheon keynote speaker Sept.18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Born in New Iberia, Louisiana, Walker moved to Almost Heaven West Virginia in 2010. Inspired and motivated by her mother, Derbie Bernard, and her two kings, Demetry and Devin Walker, she stands up and speaks out for all Mountaineers.

Walker claims West Virginia is her second chance state and it shows through her public service. Becoming a homeowner of a safe, affordable home through Mon Valley Habitat for Humanity helped her family find their space and place in their community. Being an active member of Morgantown Kingwood NAACP, Morgantown NOW, Mountaineers for Progress, WV Working Families Party and other allied groups are just a few of the ways Danielle supports her community. As a board member of Read Aloud, MAYSP, and Northern West Virginia Center for Independent Living, Danielle helps these excellent organizations serve our community.

She  is a community advocate and activist for equality and justice for and never meets a stranger without sharing her first message of One Love promoting unity, inclusion and progress.

Despite juggling the many responsibilities that come with being a widow, working mother of two disabled sons, community advocate, volunteer, and mother of the movement, Walker does the work to live up to her value that “Words without Works are a Waste.”

She is the recipient of the Power of One award, Wonder Woman of West Virginia award, and The Campaign to Keep Guns off Campus honoree.

Walker was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2018 to represent District 51 (Monongalia County).
