Important changes to University Police social media accounts

As part of continuing efforts to promote a safe and secure campus community, the West Virginia University Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management are updating our social media accounts.

The former West Virginia University Police Department Twitter account (@WVUPD) has changed its handle to @WVUalert and will only post during emergency situations.

If you already were following the former @WVUPD account, no action is required by you. You automatically will begin following the @WVUalert account and will continue to see emergency information posted there.

If you were not following the former @WVUPD account, we highly encourage you to follow the new @WVUalert account.

The WVU Police and Safety Facebook group (formerly the West Virginia University Police Department Facebook) will continue to provide emergency updates as well as other safety and wellness information.

As a reminder, official and up-to-date information during an emergency situation can be found through:

As we kick off the fall semester, be sure to visit the WVU Alert website to make sure you are registered for the alert system so we can send urgent news to your phone and WVU email inbox.

Thanks for doing your part in helping provide a safe learning, working and living environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
