The Community Music Program announces a new “sampler” class for children ages six-to-10 years old. Beginning Group Violin for Kids is designed to give children their first exposure to the musical world of strings. This class advances youngsters on with their continued music explorations, beyond Early Childhood classes. Under the direction of Senior Violin instructor Catherine Baker, BGVK will provide the stimulation of a group environment with the individual attention of private instruction, as a fun and effective approach to learning violin. This Summer sampler of four short, weekly group classes will include basic violin technique, music-reading skills, movement, singing and playing violin-related games. The last session will present a mini-recital of accomplishments. (Small violins will be available, for usage on the WVU campus premises, if needed.) There will be two sessions offered: Session 1  – Tuesdays, 10-10:45 a.m. (June 4, 11, 18 and 25) and Session 2 – Wednesdays, 5 -5:45 p.m. (June 5, 12, 19 and 26). If registering before June 1, the cost of each session will be $45. For more information call the Community Music Program at 304.293.6946 or contact us by email at karen.taddie@mail.wvu.edu.
