Truth and the liar paradox to be explored

The liar paradox is a well-known puzzle in the philosophy of logic: Is the sentence, “This sentence is false” true or false? Both answers seem to lead to a contradiction. But calling the liar paradox a puzzle does not do justice to its implications. Thinking through the paradox carefully requires confronting deep questions about the nature of meaning, truth and logic.

Join discussion leader Geoff Georgi, associate professor of philosophy, in The Speculation Academy's third conversation of the spring 2019 semester Wednesday (April 10) at at 4 p.m. in E. Moore Hall's Betty Boyd Lounge. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.
