Panel discussion on training and supervising graduate teaching assistants to be held this week

The Office of Graduate Education and Life, along with the Teaching and Learning Commons, will sponsor a panel discussion on training and supervising graduate teaching assistants Thursday (March 21) from 10 - 11:30 a.m. in the Shenandoah Room of the Mountainlair. This panel discussion is designed to provide graduate program directors and other faculty with information and resources to help ensure that GTAs across all parts of campus receive appropriate training and supervision to facilitate excellent instructional experiences for WVU undergraduates. The panel discussion will be moderated by  Lynne Cossman, Professor and Chair, Sociology. The panelists will include Katrina Stewart, Academic Specialist, Biology; JoNell Strough, Professor and Director of Graduate Training, Psychology; and Thomas Sura, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Writing Coordinator, English. Topics to be covered include models and approaches to GTA training, what GTAs need to know, strategies for supervising and evaluating GTAs and tips for helping GTAs deal with teaching challenges.
