West Virginia University’s newly created Auxiliary and Business Services unit is part of the larger Strategic Initiatives reorganization effort to continue to optimize and enhance student focus and align WVU’s revenue-generating functions to create a campus environment that enhances the student experience, while also providing an exceptional workplace for faculty and staff.
David Beaver returns to WVU to lead the new Auxiliary and Business Services unit as the Senior Associate Vice President for Auxiliary and Business Services.
“Our goal is to ensure Auxiliary and Business Services is structured to create greater efficiencies within the organization, simplify how we operate, but mostly to enhance the services we provide to meet WVU’s objectives.” said Rob Alsop, vice president for Strategic Initiatives. “David’s expertise in operational excellence and process optimization will move us closer to meeting our goal of creating an environment centered around the student experience, while aligning with the University’s values resulting in an extraordinary place for us all to work.”
Beaver will manage Design, Planning and Construction, Dining Services, Facilities and Services, Procurement Contracting and Payment Services, and Transportation and Parking. He will report to Alsop and start on Feb. 18.
Beaver most recently served as the Vice President of Procurement Services at Columbia University in New York City. He started his career working as an Industrial Engineer focused on process redesign and optimization while serving in the United States Air Force and working within the Aerospace Industry. Beaver served as the Associate Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer during his previous tenure at WVU.
Beginning Feb. 25, Ted Svehlik also joins WVU as the Assistant Vice President for Procurement and Chief Procurement Officer. Svehlik will lead the Procurement and Payment Services unit and report to David Beaver.
Svehlik most recently served as Vice President in the Strategic Sourcing & Alliances Department at Sony Pictures Entertainment and was responsible for the worldwide sourcing of all marketing and SG&A goods and services and for the development of SPE’s Supplier Diversity Program.
The director of contract administration for Dining Services, Joseph Calicchio will dual report to Auxiliary and Business Services and Student Life to maintain a key relationship with Dean of Students Corey Farris. This relationship supports Student Life as the division continues to transform the student experience which includes ensuring there are outstanding and unique dining and food service options across campus.
As part of the larger transition, Jamie Kosik, director of facilities Health Sciences Center, was named associate vice president effective Jan. 22. Kosik will be responsible for Facilities Management, Environmental Health and Safety, and Sustainability.
Paula Congelio, vice president and chief financial officer for the University, will continue to oversee University Apartments.
Cris DeBord, vice president for Talent and Culture, will permanently lead University Police.
