In commemoration of World AIDS Day, the LGBTQ+ Center, in partnership with the Positive Health Clinic and Caritas House, will host a luncheon on "HIV/AIDS in 2018 – Where We Are Today.” The WVU units encourage students, faculty and staff to attend the event Friday (Nov. 30) from noon - 1 p.m. at the LGBTQ+ Center. Pizza will be provided to participants along with condoms, informational brochures and more.
The WVU units will discuss how HIV today is not what it once was. For instance, despite lower rates of infection in general, there is an increased rate of HIV infection in youth under 25 and in seniors over 50. Participants will learn more about PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis), TasP (Treatment as Prevention), the need to monitor your health and the importance of knowing your status and viral load. A question and answer period will follow.
Free and confidential HIV testing will also be held on the same day at the Milan Puskar Health Right from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are interested in scheduling a future HIV testing but cannot attend on Friday, an appointment can be arranged at the Health Right, Caritas House or WVU’s Positive Health Clinic.
