Peter Hartley, Mitchell Professor of Economics and Rice Scholar in Energy Studies at Rice University, will present "Liquified Natural Gas Markets: Recent History and Potential" at 11 a.m. Friday (Sept. 7) in 4004 Agricultural Sciences.
His presentation is part of the Resource Economics and Management Seminar Series which features research by prominent scholars in areas such as agricultural, energy, environmental, regional, and resource economics.
His research and publications have covered a number of areas of economics; however, he has worked on energy economics issues for more than 35 years, and over the last 15 years he has focused solely on energy economics and policy. Prior to getting his Ph.D. he worked for the Priorities Review Staff and the Economic Division of the Prime Minister's Department in the Australian Government. His academic appointments include Assistant Professor of Economics at Princeton University and visiting positions at Monash University, the University of Melbourne, the Australian National University, and the University of Western Australia. He has been at Rice University since 1986. He has also worked for public policy think tanks including the Tasman Institute in Melbourne. He has a Ph.d. in economics from the University of Chicago.
