Sustainability of Biofuels in an Uncertain Decision Environment. 4/17/2018, room 325 Brooks Hall.

The Regional Research Institute and the Institute of Water Security and Science are co-sponsoring a seminar April 17 at 12:30 p.m. in 325 Brooks Hall. The speaker is Dr. Jadwiga Ziolkowska from Oklahoma University. She is assistant professor and environmental economist in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability and manager of the Water-Energy-Food Institute. Ziolkowska will discuss the question of increasing biofuels production. She said, "Production of corn-based biofuels creates a 'food/feed vs. fuel" tradeoff condition, along with subsequent uncertainties for both consumers and producers." But on the other hand, she continues, "advanced biofuels, though widely acknowledged as environmentally more friendly and economically efficient, are not available on a large commercial scale yet." During her presentation, Ziolkowska will present a multi-objective optimization model to discuss the question of sustainable biofuels production in the situation of limited resources and in an uncertain environment.
