WVU only higher education institution named as top 50 employer in 2017 CandE Awards

WVU was among only 50 organizations honored by the Talent Board with a 2017 North American Candidate Experience Award. WVU also was the only higher education institution to be recognized.

The CandE Awards are presented each year to employers throughout North America that demonstrate excellence across all aspects of the hiring process. The award is determined based on research and feedback from job candidates.

Employers are evaluated through a multi-step process that includes a self-inventory and a survey of an organization’s prior applicants. Job candidates assign an employer an overall ranking, and applicants who were not hired indicate whether they would apply to other opportunities within the organization or refer it to a friend. WVU had more than 800 prior applicants respond to the survey.

“Service is one of our core values at West Virginia University,” said Cris DeBord, vice president of Talent and Culture. “And one of the ways we are bringing this to life is by ensuring job seekers have a great experience throughout the hiring process –

from interviewing to onboarding and beyond.”

“There are so many exciting and rewarding career opportunities at WVU,” said Andrea Yanego, director of Talent Strategy. “When interacting with people looking to join the WVU family, we work hard to make it the best experience possible. We are honored to be recognized for these efforts.”

The CandE Award winners were announced at the 2017 North American Candidate Experience Symposium and Awards Gala, which took place on Oct. 2, in Nashville, Tennessee. Additional honorees included Lockheed Martin, Johnson & Johnson, Verizon and Delta Air Lines.

This distinction is not the first employment award WVU has received this year either – the University also was named a 2017 Military Friendly Employer, again standing alone as the only higher education award recipient.
