The Rosenbaum Family House at West Virginia University kicked off its “Comforts of Home” fundraising campaign.

On (Thursday) Sept. 27, a private fundraising effort was launched to raise $10,000 to help continue providing house guests with everyday amenities such as hot meals, kitchenware, laundry detergent and other support services for guests in need.

“The guests at the Rosenbaum Family House have the same needs as any other home, only times 40 because there are 40 families who stay with us,” said Jillian Zangari, development officer for the Family House. “This campaign will help us provide guests with the supplies needed to create a home away from home while they stay with us.”

The Family House, established in 1999 by a generous gift from Hilda Rosenbaum, provides overnight accommodations free or at a minimal rate to those who have family members being treated at nearby J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital.

“I cannot thank the staff enough for everything that they have done and are continuing to do for our family during this difficult time,” said a guest of the house. “The staff is absolutely so warm, kind and accommodating. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. What a beautiful place with beautiful and genuinely kind people.”

In 2016, the Family House provided lodging for 1,650 families; served more than 9,800 meals to families in 2015; and has housed over 15,000 families since opening its doors.
