Campus MovieFest at West Virginia University launched on September 6 and our students had one week to make the best possible five-minute film. The CMF tour staff provided training, support, and of course, amazing equipment -- including a laptop loaded with Adobe
Creative Cloud, a Panasonic LUMIX HD camera, and crystal clear Sennheiser sound gear. We are happy to release that more than 300 WVU students were involved in both side of the camera and 68 movies were made. This is a record breaking number for both since Campus MovieFest came to WVUp All Night in 2013.
Prizes, Prizes, and More Prizes
WVU Faculty and Staff judged the submissions last night and the top 16 movies were chosen. Tonight (Sept. 15) at 7:30pm, the movies will be shown on the big screen in the Mountainlair Ballrooms. The movie makers will not know if their movie was chosen until it appears on the big screen at The Premiere.
Red Carpet Premiere
Friends, family, fans and the general public are all invited to join the student filmmakers in celebrating a week of incredible accomplishments. The top four films from WVU win the coveted Jury Award, which means they will move on to compete on the national level at TERMINUS Conference + Festival in Atlanta. Jury Award winners will also receive a one-year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud (a $600 value!), the chance to apply for the CMF at Cannes Program, and get specially-priced passes to TERMINUS! To celebrate the achievements of West Virginia University’s most outstanding filmmakers, Silver Tripod Awards will be given in specific categories, including directing, editing, performance, and more.
Students can also compete in the Elfenworks Social Justice category, which highlights injustice and inspires change -- with the national winner taking home $10,000. Students can submit work from their school’s filmmaking week, or take their time and submit an entry before May 1, 2018.
Campus MovieFest is sponsored by WVUp All Night with the assistance of the WVU Film Club. For questions about this program, please contact Sonja.Wilson@mail.wvu.edu
