WVU to host record number of employers on campus

Career Fair interview

On most college campuses, Sept. is for football—but at WVU, Sept. is also for career fairs. To meet the growing needs of students and employers, the WVU Career Services Center, the College of Business and Economics, and the Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources have teamed up to bring more than 225 employers on campus and create 48 hours of networking opportunities for students and alumni seeking internships and full-time employment.

The B&E Career Fair will host 75 employers Wednesday (Sept. 13) from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and the Statler College Career Fair will host 145 employers Thursday (Sept. 14) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Both events will be held at the Student Recreation Center to provide a convenient format for employers who are hiring students from both colleges

It is critical for students to pursue internships early in their academic career and even more important for upcoming graduates to begin their full-time job search nine to twelve months prior to gradation; employers are also interested in connecting with potential talent as soon as they return to campus.

“Fostering collaboration between faculty and employers is a key element to providing comprehensive services to our employer partners,” according to Kellyn Smith, director of the Center for Career Development in the College of Business and Economics. A joint Networking Reception for faculty, student organization leaders, and employers will be held Wednesday (Sept. 13) from 5 p.m. to 7  p.m. at the Evansdale Crossing. Employer representatives will have the chance to increase their brand recognition among faculty and student organizations as well as discuss research and development opportunities in specific academic areas.

“Cross-departmental events like this support the concept of ONE WVU and demonstrate the commitment the University has made to the success of our students and alumni,” said David Durham, director of the Career Services Center.

These events are made possible in part through the generous support of our sponsors, including Ecolab/Nalco, Schaeffler, Aldi, P&G, and Williams.
