OLLI Hosts Annual Irving Goodman Aging Lecture September 13

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute welcomes Pamela Teaster as the featured speaker for its 11th Annual Irving Goodman Aging Lecture Wednesday (Sept. 13) at 1 p.m. in the Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Greenbag Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The OLLI Fall Open House will follow at 2 p.m.

"Charting a Direction in Turbulent Times: The Past, Present, and Future of Policies Affecting Older Adults"  Teaster will provide a brief history of old age policy in order to explain present old age policy. She will also discuss how older adults and their advocates might navigate future old age policy in the current political environment.

Teaster, Ph.D., is the Director of the Center for Gerontology and a Professor in the Department of Human Development at Virginia Tech. She is the Secretary General of the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and is the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Center for Guardianship Certification. She helped established the Kentucky Justice Center for Elders and Vulnerable Adults and the Kentucky Guardianship Association. Her research concerns the abuse of elders and vulnerable adults, public and private guardianship, the ethics of surrogate decision making, public policy, and quality of life of older adults and has involved working with international, national, state, and community organizations and entities. Teaster is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America and the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.  She is the recipient of the Rosalie Wolf Award for Research on Elder Abuse.  She has published over 100 scholarly articles and book chapters and is editor/author of 4 books.
