The WVU Wind Symphony will present “A la Sousa,” Sunday (Sept. 10) at 6 p.m. as part of the Sounds of Summer concert series at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park in Morgantown.
The Wind Symphony concert will embrace styles performed by the John Philip Sousa Band in the early part of the 20th century.
The program for the concert includes:

- Fugue on Yankee Doodle – Sousa/Brion & Schissel
- Irish Tune from County Derry – Grainger
- Blue Bells of Scotland – Pryor/Higgins
- The Black Horse Troop – Sousa/Fennell
- Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna – von Suppe/Fillmore
- Log Cabin Blues – Green/Baker
- Easter Monday on the White House Lawn – Sousa/Rogers
- Handel in the Strand – Grainger/Sousa/Brion/Schissel
- Roosters Lay Eggs in Kansas – Lake/Foster
- Stars and Stripes Forever – Sousa
As a sponsor of the series, music industry students from the School of Music at WVU’s College of Creative Arts will handle the management and production aspect of the free concert.
“This concert series is the result of collaboration between WVU’s College of Creative Arts and Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation, joining together to bring the Morgantown community free live music entertainment this Summer, in all types of musical genres,” said Darko Velichkovski, director of the music industry program. “As such, it is also a great opportunity for our music industry students to gain a meaningful experience in all the aspects of live music production management and organization. Their involvement with the productions like this one is crucial for their growth and progress as future music industry professionals.”
The concert is free and open to the public. The series is also sponsored by BOPARC, City of Morgantown, Monongalia County Commission and Coca-Cola.
