Additional 4-hour 'floating' holiday for WVU leave-eligible employees

West Virginia University has modified its holiday calendar to include an additional four-hour  floating holiday as a result of Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s announcement granting State employees a half-day off  on Friday, December 23, 2016.

“Hours will be granted through the MyTime leave system to leave-eligible employees at WVU’s campuses in Morgantown, Beckley, Charleston, Keyser, Martinsburg and Montgomery,” said Cris DeBord, vice president for talent and culture.

The four (4) hours will be granted to leave-eligible employees prorated by the employee’s FTE, and will appear in the MyTime leave system beginning on March 1, 2017, at 12:01 a.m.

To qualify for these floating holiday hours, an employee must be leave-eligible and on payroll on March 1, 2017.

Additionally, a leave-eligible employee must either work their full shift or have enough paid leave (SL, AL, CTO) to cover any amount of time absent on the working day prior to and immediately following March 1, 2017. Employees using terminal leave on March 1, 2017, will not be eligible for the floating holiday hours.

The floating holiday hours may be taken anytime between March 1, 2017, and June 30, 2017. Any floating holiday hours not used by June 30, 2017, will be forfeited. Employees can request approval to use the floating holiday, or any portion of it, through the MyTime leave system.
