Beginning Oct. 12, the Division of Talent and Culture will provide monthly, in-person orientation sessions for all new employees.
Led by the Learning and Organizational Development team, the New Mountaineer Orientation program is designed to provide new hires with a solid foundation as they begin their careers at WVU.
Attendees will learn about our identity as the state’s flagship, land-grant R1 institution and the mission that drives our work. The program will also feature an in-depth look at the University’s Strategic Compass and core values, providing a deeper understanding of our culture. Additionally, campus resources and other essential information will be shared to ensure everyone feels connected throughout their WVU journey.
Most importantly, this orientation offers a unique opportunity to build connections and show new employees how every role supports the University each day. The ultimate goal is for attendees to leave the session with a better understanding of our institution, a connection to our mission, and a stronger sense of pride in being a Mountaineer.
Employees who begin work on or after Sept. 1 will attend the session held the month following their first day. September hires will attend the inaugural session on Oct. 12.
After that, sessions will take place on the first Monday of each month on the Downtown area of campus. More information will be sent via email to new employees as they start their roles.
Beyond NMO, the LOD team is also excited to enhance its professional development and learning opportunities for all employees. Faculty and staff are invited to get involved and expand their professional horizons through the following events and sessions.

The two-hour, interactive training for new, current, and aspiring leaders will help employees explore values-based leadership behaviors and practical ways to lead with our values in mind. Fall sessions are scheduled for Thursday (Sept. 10) in Morgantown and Nov. 11 online. Register to attend.
