Julian Guckert, a front desk manager at the Honors Hall, has been selected to be featured for the September Staff Council Classified Staff Showcase.
A Williamstown native, Guckert came to WVU as a freshman in 2023. Inspired to provide the same care his professors and former front desk manager showed him and other students, he joined the Housing and Residence Life team within the Division of Student Life in August 2025.
In his role, he works alongside a team of RAs and residence life specialists to ensure residential students feel connected and can easily access resources for homesickness, test anxiety, and other stressors.
“As a student, I grew to love the University,” he said. “Once I witnessed the genuine care employees have for students, I knew inspiration and leadership were at the heart of WVU. Now, I get to provide that same positivity by working for the place that helped me become who I am today.”
His proudest achievement is collaborating with Information Technology Services and his colleagues to replace an outdated software system with the Residence Hall Operations Dashboard. The new platform tracks room assignments, maintenance requests, onboarding information for new employees, and other important updates across all 13 residence halls.
He notes that the most rewarding part of the project was feeling truly listened to and seeing his idea come to life with full support from his coworkers and department leaders.
Guckert is also a part-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in multi-disciplinary studies composed of minors in communication studies, leadership studies, and professional writing. He plans to eventually use his education to expand his career within Housing and Residence Life.
His workspace proudly features several photos of his British Shorthair cat, Timmy, whom he fondly refers to as his roommate. Outside of work, he enjoys drumming and spending time outdoors.
Each month, the University acknowledges the valuable efforts and hard work of a Classified Staff employee with the Classified Staff Showcase.
