Microsoft Teams users: Expect a new look on your main screen later in July

information Technology

If you are using Microsoft Teams, the powerful and efficient collaboration tool available to all WVU employees, you should expect to encounter a new look and feel by the end of July. Tiles and graphics will represent your teams, making it easier to identify a particular Team when you belong to many.

ITS encourages the use of Teams because it is a great way to collaborate within departments and groups and is available for free to all employees on campus.

If you haven’t worked with Teams yet, check out these resources, including this FAQ. You can also install the Microsoft Teams app on your mobile phone to stay connected and get important notifications when you are away from your desk.

A few key points for new users:

  • Teams isn't designed to be an email client, but unread Teams messages will go to your email after one hour. You can change the frequency in the Teams client by clicking on your profile picture > Settings > Notifications > Email Frequency.

  • Teams integrates with SharePoint for easy file collaboration.

  • It’s easy to bring new collaborators up to speed with Teams’ persistent chat function. It eliminates the need to track down old email threads.

  • Teams has audio conferencing capabilities like Skype. You must  purchase a license for this feature, which is $17.37 per year.
