Rural Health Information Fair to be hosted by the Institute for Community & Rural Health

The WVU Institute for Community and Rural Health is hosting an information fair to showcase the programs, opportunities and scholarships available to students interested in rural health care.  All health professions students are welcome to attend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22 and April 23, HSC-N in the Pylon’s Lobby hallway behind Cavanaugh’s.

Refreshments will be provided.

The information fair will showcase the following programs and opportunities for students interested in rural healthcare:

  • WV AHEC Rural Community Scholars Program: provides supplemental community-based and didactic opportunities for health professions students that are interested in practicing in rural/underserved communities.  Programming focuses on interprofessional education through clinical, didactic, and community-based lenses. Accepted scholars receive a $1,300 stipend.

  • Community and Rural Rotations Support Program: offers the opportunity for health professions students to contribute to impacting health outcomes through community-based projects in high risk/high need areas of West Virginia. Accepted C.A.R.R.S. students will receive a stipend of $1,500 per rotation.

  • Project Rural Education Alliance for Community Health: a volunteer opportunity available to students interested in serving and education West Virginians about healthy living. Students from diverse disciplines travel to events across the state (emphasis on rural and underserved areas) to provide information on topics such as: nutrition, exercise, diabetes education, self-exams, etc.

  • Rural Undergraduate Shadowing in Healthcare:  offers participants a unique experience to shadow a rural practitioner to gain insight into what it is like to practice in a rural area of West Virginia.

  • Scholarship and Financial Support Opportunities: the ICRH offers many scholarships to health sciences students interested in rural health care.  See website for a full list of scholarship opportunities.
