University Police Department members recognized for their service

Several members of the West Virginia University Police Department recently were recognized for their service in keeping our University community safe and secure.

Capt. Sherry St. Clair honored David Prince, who serves as operation coordinator and forensic examiner, with a WVU Values Coin for living the University’s core values of Service, Curiosity, Respect, Accountability and Appreciation.

St. Clair was a recipient of a 2017 WVU Values Coin. Last year, 2017-coin recipients were asked to demonstrate the University’s value of Appreciation and “pay it forward” by identifying other faculty and staff who embody our values and presenting them with a WVU Values Coin. St. Clair chose to recognize Prince for his service and support to the University Police team and the broader community.

“David is a hardworking, dedicated and honest employee who takes his work very seriously,” St. Clair said. “He always is willing to help others and is a great source of information for our entire team. David also routinely volunteers for additional duties within the department and will do whatever it takes to get the job done. He is a great asset to the University Police Department and WVU.”

Two additional University Police officers, Erin Kohler and Kevin Colaw, also were honored with “Lifesaving Awards.” Kohler and Colaw were recognized for their quick thinking in saving a patient who was bleeding profusely from significant lacerations to his forearm. They were first to arrive at the scene and applied a tourniquet to the patient's arm, which ultimately saved his life.

West Virginia University Police Department Chief W.P. Chedester said, “Often times, much of what we do within University Police to protect and serve our faculty, staff and students occurs behind the scenes. It’s always great to take the time to publicly recognize our team members who go above and beyond to support our University community.”
