Additional “floating” holiday for WVU leave-eligible employees

Woodburn Hall in the winter.

Late last week, Gov. Jim Justice issued executive orders declaring  additional half-days on Monday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 31, as official holidays for State employees. And since WVU already observes these days as holidays, the University has modified its holiday calendar to include an additional 7.5-hour “floating” holiday (pro-rated by FTE) for leave-eligible employees, effective Monday, Dec. 24.

Beginning Dec. 24, leave-eligible employees at all WVU’s campuses may request approval to use the floating holiday time – or any portion of it – through the MyTime leave system.

To qualify for the floating holiday hours, employees must:

  • Be leave-eligible and on WVU payroll on Dec. 24, and

  • either work their full shift or have enough paid leave (SL, AL, CTO) to cover any amount of time absent on the working day prior to and immediately following Dec. 24.

Note: The floating holiday hours will not be available in the MyTime system until Dec. 24. Further, employees using terminal leave on Dec. 24, will not be eligible for the floating holiday hours.

The floating holiday hours may be used any time between Dec. 24, 2018, and June 30, 2019. Floating holiday hours will not be paid out upon termination and are not eligible for transfer to another State agency. Any floating holiday hours not used by June 30, 2019, will be forfeited.
