Each year, 75,000 AmeriCorps members come from all corners of the nation to put the "national" in national service. AmeriCorps members serve in a variety of programs that strive to fight poverty and address critical community needs such as increasing academic achievement, mentoring youth, sustaining national parks, preparing for disasters, and more.

AmeriStates and AmeriCities ranks the locations that produce the most AmeriCorps members per capita. This year, West Virginia is ranked as the #1 AmeriState! Whether West Virginian AmeriCorps members serve in West Virginia or travel to serve throughout the United States, each makes a valuable contribution to the communities where they serve.

“AmeriCorps is America at its best – people putting compassion into action,” said Barbara Stewart, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that administers the national service program. “Whether they come from big cities or small towns, all AmeriCorps members take the same pledge: to get things done for America. In thousands of communities across the country, organizations are looking for dedicated Americans to make the same commitment. With their service, we will continue to create a safer, stronger, more united nation.”
