WVU Faculty Rules out for public comment

West Virginia University Faculty Rules have been posted online for public comment.

The West Virginia University Board of Governors has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, including changing the terminology from “policy” to “rules” to potentially:

  • Approve two new Faculty Rules (incorporating concepts from several current policies);

  • Amend four current BOG Policies relating to faculty and rename them as BOG Faculty Rules; and

  • Repeal three current BOG Policies relating to faculty (the substance has been incorporated in various the proposed Faculty Rules).

The proposed changes are to amend, approve, and, in some cases, repeal current BOG Policies in order to implement new BOG Rules in accordance with W. Va. House Bill 2815 (2017). To that end, the term “Policy” will be replaced with “Rule” and these Policies will be reformatted to the new design for BOG Rules, renumbered, and standard terms are used, when applicable. Moreover, all BOG Rules will be updated to supersede and repeal W. Va. Higher Education Policy Commission Rules, where applicable.

Summaries of the new proposed Faculty Rules can be found on the Summary of Proposed BOG Rules Rules, Policies, and Procedures website.

The revisions will be posted for public comment for 30 days beginning February 19 and ending on March 20. All public comments received will be posted on the University’s policy website. The rules may be changed, subject to comments received. The comments, or summary thereof, and final proposed rules will be posted for 10 days prior to the Board taking final action.

The BOG rules under review can be found on the Rules, Policies, and Procedures website. Any member of the public can comment on these proposed Rules. If you wish to comment, please click on the proposed Rule on the Board Rules Under Review page. The proposed Rule’s text will appear. You will see a comment form link from the Rule and Policy page. Please complete and submit the comment form to provide your input.
