Additional four-hour “floating” holiday for WVU leave-eligible employees

Winter on campus

Earlier this week, Gov. Jim Justice issued an executive order declaring the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 29, as an official holiday for State employees.

Since many WVU employees already have requested leave for this time, the University has modified its holiday calendar to include a supplemental four-hour “floating” holiday for leave-eligible employees. These four hours are in addition to the floating holiday time previously granted on Dec. 22, 2017.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 29, leave-eligible employees at all of WVU’s campuses may request approval to use the additional floating holiday time – or any portion of it – through the MyTime leave system.

To qualify for the floating holiday hours, employees must:

  • Be leave-eligible and on WVU payroll on Dec. 29, 2017, and

  • either work their full shift or have enough paid leave (SL, AL, CTO) to cover any amount of time absent on the working day prior to and immediately following Dec. 29, 2017.

Note: Employees using terminal leave on Dec. 29, 2017, will not be eligible for the floating holiday hours.

The floating holiday hours will be prorated based upon the employee’s full-time equivalency and may be used any time before June 30, 2018. Any floating holiday hours not used by June 30, 2018, will be forfeited.
