Mountaineer Parents Club earns ‘Innovative Program’ award

Parents Club with award

The West Virginia University Mountaineer Parents Club “I survived move-in” reception was presented with the Innovative Program award during the West Virginia Association of Student Personnel Administrators annual conference held last week.

The award is presented annually to an institution, member unit or division which has implemented a creative and effective approach to a policy or problem.

In its second year, the “I survived move-in” parent reception was designed to create a pleasant experience for parents and to help reduce the stress of move-in day. The informal event provides parents with an opportunity to connect with other families and visit with staff and administrators while enjoying light refreshments. The event is part of WVU’s Welcome Week.

"I'm thrilled that the 'I survived move-in' receptions were chosen for the Innovative Program award,” said Sabrina Cave, assistant vice president, Parent Programs. “This award recognizes some of the great work that the Mountaineer Parents Club does to connect parents and families to the University."

WVASPA is a professional association that works to promote more effective work in the field of student personnel administrators at public and private colleges and universities throughout West Virginia.

“We were so pleased to recognize the WVU Mountaineer Parents Club in their effort to increase student development and success by supporting families,” said Kelli Jo McNemar, immediate past president of WVASPA. “The programming being offered at the receptions are a great way to create new positive memories for parents as they process these next steps.”
