Mindfulness event for administrators

Many healthcare and education administrators began their careers as caregivers, teachers or researchers. The vastly different responsibilities of a leadership role can be stressful. Can mindfulness practices improve the performance and well-being of administrators?

Dr. Kathleen Gregory, Dean of the Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology at Naropa University, will lead an hour-long session titled “Mindfulness for Administrators,” at 10 a.m. Aug. 18 in John Jones C (G285C) in Health Sciences South (near The Market.)

Gregory uses mindfulness in both her work with patients and in her work with other faculty and students.  She will discuss the role of mindfulness in leadership and the interpersonal interactions that come with administrative roles.  The relevant scientific literature will be reviewed.

This is an opportunity to WVU Medicine and Health Sciences leaders (Deans, Department Chairs, Program Administrators, etc.) to learn about and experience firsthand this important component of wellbeing in their lives and the lives of those they supervise and lead.

The event is presented by the the Quality of Life Initiative, a campus-wide group that promotes mindfulness and overall wellbeing for students, faculty, staff, and employees at Health Sciences and WVU Medicine.

Space is limited; if you plan to attend, RSVP to Joanna DiStefano at joanna.distefano@hsc.wvu.edu.
