Widders, Lockman named Provost Fellows

The Office of the Provost at West Virginia University has named two faculty members to the 2017-2018 class of Provost Fellows. Fellows began their projects this summer and will continue to hold part-time administrative appointments during the academic year. Both will work closely with WVU administration on major academic initiatives in their selected area of emphasis.

Evan Widders, coordinator and clinical associate professor of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences Multidisciplinary Studies Program, is working with Paul Kreider, associate provost for undergraduate education, on transfer student enrollment, transition and retention.

Julie Lockman, director of investigator development at the West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute and teaching associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, is working with Louise Veselicky, associate vice president for academic affairs at the WVU Health Sciences Center, on health sciences educational programs.

Provost Joyce McConnell is excited that the program is continuing into its third year, bringing faculty talent and experience into WVU’s administrative offices.

“These faculty members have an opportunity to work closely with people and teams who are transforming this institution,” noted Provost McConnell. “I know they will be energized by their experience—and we will encourage them to build on that energy to improve our academic and administrative units.”

The Provost Fellows program began in Fall 2015 and has mentored nine faculty members since its inception. The call for applications for the 2018-19 academic year will be made later this semester.
