Retirement celebration set for ITS employee Jeff Lucas

Jeff Lucas of Information Technology Services is retiring after nearly 17 years of service to WVU. All faculty, staff and students who have worked with him over the years are invited to attend a celebration from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 27 in room 6117 of One Waterfront Place.

Lucas began his WVU career in 2000 as an instructor in the Cisco Networking Academy, training other instructors from around the world to pass an administrator’s exam. He helped manage more than 30 academies in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland, and more than 15 US Department of Defense academies in Europe and Japan.

In 2002, Lucas joined the Network Services team. In 2004, he was asked to return to the networking academy, which gave him the chance to travel to Japan, Germany, Iceland and the United Kingdom to train Defense Department instructors. In 2007, he returned to WVU as Network Manager of day-to-day operations.

He has participated in or managed much of the rapid expansion and change to the University’s network, including installation of 1,400 wireless access points and the extension of service to Potomac State College and WVU Tech.

Since April 2016, he has been the Assistant Director of Tier 2 Operations, leading a cross-functional team from LAN Services, Networking, Systems and Telecommunications to speed up the resolution of problems. Jeff’s last day on campus will be July 31.
