Faculty, staff and students are invited to an informal conversation with Dan Carder, director of the Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines and Emissions, on lessons learned from the Volkswagen emissions scandal and the importance of research. Come hear about how WVU research made front-page news around the world.
The discussion will be held May 3 at 1 p.m. in Room 125 in the Advanced Engineering Research Building across from the Evansdale Library. Refreshments will be served.
Dan Carder led the WVU research team that sparked investigations into the Volkswagen emissions scandal. The team of engineers conducted on-road tests of diesel vehicles and discovered that two VW test vehicles did not meet emissions standards. Regulators later discovered that the automaker deliberately installed software code into the cars’ computers to cheat on emissions tests.
Since the story broke, Carder and the research team have been interviewed by news outlets around the world. Carder was named to the 2016 Time 100, the magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world, and the team was named Disruptors of the Year by CNET.
